Our Heritage — A Legacy of Authentic Mykonian Hospitality

henia traces its roots to 1924, when the Fiorentino family first welcomed travellers at the historic Hotel Delos in Mykonos Town. For over a century, the mission has stayed the same: to share the island's true spirit with warmth, care, and dignity.

Rhenia itself first opened its doors in 1966. Built by Mykonian craftsmen and inspired by the visionary Xenia Hotels programme of the era, it honours classic Cycladic architecture — whitewashed forms, natural materials, balanced proportions — marrying tradition with quiet, contemporary comfort.

At the heart of it all is xenia, the ancient Greek idea of hospitality as something sacred. Under Xenios Zeus, a guest was received not as a transaction but as a person, with sincerity and genuine care. A bronze coin of Xenios Zeus sits at our reception as a reminder of that promise — hospitality as a relationship, not a service. Shaped by light, wind, and sea, Rhenia is a place where heritage is felt rather than displayed. Every stay continues a story that began a century ago. Welcome to our home.
 

Our Mythos — Where Myth, History & Light Converge

Long before Mykonos became a byword for celebration, it was an island shaped by myth and its sacred bond with neighbouring Delos — the mythological birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, and one of the most sacred sanctuaries of the ancient Greek world. Pilgrims, merchants, and sailors passed through Mykonos on their way to the holy island, making it a place of refuge and passage.

According to legend, Mykonos was formed from the petrified bodies of giants defeated by Hercules in the Gigantomachy — the epic battle between gods and giants. The island's rugged hills and rocky coastline, including the striking formations above Tourlos Bay near the hotel, are said to be the remnants. Just above Rhenia, the granite dome of Ai Gioris Spilianos rises from a scatter of rounded boulders once believed thrown by giants — a surreal, elemental landmark where geology and myth blur into one.

The island carries this deep past quietly: a Mycenaean tholos tomb hidden in the hills, the neolithic “Portes” gate standing alone in the countryside, traces of trade and worship reaching back millennia. And through it runs the Dionysian spirit — the ancient god of wine, ritual, and liberation, whose celebrations of music and dance still echo in the modern Mykonian love of freedom and festivity.
